Royal Approval for Watson’s Junior School Development

Our Master, Peter Hillier, represented the Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh at the formal opening of George Watson’s College’s John Martin Building by HRH The Princess Royal, a Past Master of the Merchant Company.

This project has extended the Junior School building to provide modern, bright classrooms, a new Junior School library and some magnificent music and performance facilities.

Following the event, which due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could include very few guests, Mr Hillier said, “I was delighted that Her Royal Highness was able to formally open the John Martin Building. As a past Master she clearly appreciates the importance of our schools to the Company and retains a great interest in their success”. The Princess Royal’s visit to Watson’s came 88 years to the day after her Great Uncle, who later became HRH Prince George, The Duke of Kent, opened buildings at Colinton Road.
