    A conflict of interest is any situation in which a trustee’s personal interests or loyalties could, or could be seen to prevent them from making a decision only in the best interests of the charity.


    In broad terms, family, relatives, or business partners of a trustee as well as businesses in which a trustee has interest through ownership or influence


    A particular type of conflict of interest in which a trustee’s loyalty or duty to another person or organization could prevent the trustee from making a decision only in the best interest of the charity.


    Trustees cannot receive a benefit from their charity, whether directly or indirectly, without adequate authority. The potential for a trustee to benefit from the charity presents a conflict of interest.

    I understand my legal obligations as a charity trustee regarding Conflict of Interest requirements

    I undertake to advise the Chair of the Merchant Company Enterprise Fund at the beginning of a Board meeting of any areas which are or could be perceived as conflict of interest which may have arisen since signing this declaration or which arise from agenda items.

    I undertake to update the Declaration of Interest form on an annual basis.

    I give consent for the information declared to be used for the purposes as described in the Protocol and for no other purpose.
