To support the workings of the Company, there are several committees who meet regularly at The Merchants' Hall and liaise with The Master's Court.
These are Charities, Education Liaison & Enterprise, Membership, Property, Investment and Archives & Treasures.
Each is chaired by a member of the Court or an Old Master, assisted by Members. In addition, short-life committees are set up to deal with particular need as and when it arises. It’s an opportunity for Members to become more involved in different aspects of the Company.
Merchant Company Prize for Initiative.
In addition, the Merchant Company runs an annual Initiative Prize open to all pupils in Edinburgh Secondary education. The judging panel will consider initiatives from individuals or groups. The initiative may be the student or group of students own commercial venture, charity work, a community project, the environmental sphere, the arts.... the sky is the limit. Further information and details of how to apply will be available each year at the beginning of September. The closing date for entries will be the end of December.
