Visit of Captain and Crew of HMS Queen Elizabeth

The Master welcomes the Lord Provost along with the Captain of HMS Queen Elizabeth and other members of the party.

On 8th February the Master was delighted to host a visit and lunch for the Captain of our affiliate ship HMS Queen Elizabeth and Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh. As the UK’s leading aircraft carrier, HMSQNLZ is the Royal Navy’s flagship and the Royal Company of Merchants is one of only a few livery companies to be honoured with an affiliation. Members may be familiar with HMSQNLZ as it has been the subject of a recent BBC documentary series.

The Master, together with Peter Hillier, Lord Dean of Guild, and Old Master Don Young, welcomed Captain Ian Feasey along with several of his crew to a tour of the Hall and Court Room, followed by lunch at the New Club. While at the Hall, the Master presented two crew members with Merchant Company awards: one for Enterprise; and one for Initiative. At the lunch afterwards, it was clear that both recipients not only appreciated our support and recognition, but also very much enjoyed a day out in Edinburgh in the company of their senior officers. Going forward, the aim is for the Merchant Company prizes to become an annual tradition, thus strengthening our affiliation with the Royal Navy’s flagship and her crew.
